A team spokesman said: “Walkers and climbers should consider the shorter days and carry a torch, spare batteries, map, compass and whistle on every trip."

The Buxton and Edale Teams were called to Edale Village on Sunday afternoon following a report of a walker having slipped whilst descending the Grindsbrook Gorge, sustaining a foot injury which immobilised her.

The 57 year old lady from Northwich, Cheshire was walking with her husband when she stumbled causing the foot injury.

Following treatment from team personnel, a stretcher evacuation was the only option, however no easy task from the confluence of Grindsbrook Gorge and Fox Holes Springs.

Twenty members of the joint teams carried her up the steep hillside, using ropes to assist, onto the Grindslow Knoll path for a return trip to Edale via the Sledge Track.

This lady was very cold when we reached her and it’s always useful to carry spare clothing in the event of unexpected delays on the hill”.

Buxton MRT added: "On arrival in the village, the injury did not warrant an ambulance and the lady returned home with her husband and advised to seek medical attention."
