FINAL preparations are being made for the inaugural Disley and Newtown Well Dressing, which takes place next weekend.
The royalty has now been chosen at a special selection evening held at Lyme Park when three independent judges chose Nia Hampson as Disley Well Dressing Queen and Jessica Jones as Rosebud.
Three flower girls were also selected and these are Sofia Hewitt, Madelyn Harris and Amelia Herbert.
A full programme of events has been planned for June 18 and 19 with attractions for all the family to enjoy.
On the Saturday, events will run from 10am and will include: a village blacksmith, Morris Dancing, New Mills Band, a scarecrow competition, and Maypole dancing by children from Disley Primary School. Scouts will be serving bacon butties with tea and coffee by the St Mary’s Church team.
On the Sunday, the blessing of the well will be carried out by Reverend Margaret Owens, vicar of St Mary’s, at 2pm.
The ceremony will be attended by David Rutley MP, the Mayor of Cheshire East, Richard Milkins from Cheshire East Tourism and Lord Newton whose ancestors built St Mary’s Church.
Organisers of the event would like to thank Maia Photography who provided their skills on the selection night for free, and the management and staff of Lyme Park who acted as hosts.
