VIDEO & PICTURES: Worshipers descend on Buxton for Good Friday's Walk of Witness

The reverend Andrew Parker, Minister for Buxton Methodist Church, was one of the organisers. He said: “It is the only outdoor event where all the churches come together and this shows the town that Christianity is still alive and active.

“It was great to keep the tradition alive and was so nice to see the churches all represented for such an important event.”

The congregation walked through the streets following the cross to remember when Jesus walked to his crucifixion.

The act of worship started at St John’s Church where the Community Church led a service with songs performed by Matt Preston and Ollie Taylor.

The procession of around 80 people walked to Buxton Opera House where Father Gerry Murphy from At Anne’s Catholic Church took the lead.

The group continued to Turner’s Memorial for a sermon from Andrew Parker. The congregation moved to The Springs for words from Church in the Peak and acting town rector Revered Keith Cocking led the final blessing.

Mr Parker added: “We had a great turnout with people of all ages there.”

Refreshments of more than 100 hot cross buns were supplied by one of the town chaplains Chris Gane.
