A group of railway modellers are chuffed to bits at the success of their latest exhibition.
New Mills & District Railway Modellers’ 41st model railway display at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School last weekend again proved a hit with locals and enthusiasts.
Initially formed in 1974 to help raise funds for New Mills Swimming Pool, after the pool had been built the members, having enjoyed the experience of staging the fund-raising exhibitions, decided to carry on.
Over the years the club has raised funds for local charities. Last year, local good causes including Chapel-en-le-Frith Mobile Physiotherapy Service, Daniel’s Light and the Grapevine Project were among the beneficiaries.
The fundraising continues this year, alongside the continued long-term support for Blythe House who will receive £6,400 from the sales of donated model railway items.
Lucy Marsden, from the hospice, said: “New Mills & District Railway Modellers are loyal and regular supporters of the hospice. By asking people to donate their unwanted model railway items and railway books, the modellers then sell on these items at their exhibition and throughout the year with all of the proceeds coming to Blythe House.”
