Upcoming talk on historic abbey

Lovers of history will be captivated by a talk about an abbey that is centuries old.

Michael Fisher will be joining Swythamley Historical Society at 2.30pm on Saturday in Danebridge Chapel to talk about Dieulacres Abbey.

The abbey is more than 800 years old and there is not much left of the building now, as it was systematically plundered for stone in the years following the dissolution of the monasteries in 1538.

In its heyday, however, the abbey controlled vast estates in Staffordshire, Cheshire and Lancashire, and played a significant part in the medieval wool-trade. Tickets are £3 and can be purchased on the day.
