Two injured people rescued in High Peak

The Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams were called to Rushop Edge, near Castleton by the ambulance service, following reports of an injured male paraglider on Saturday afternoon (April 23).

During the flight, the paraglider canopy collapsed and the pilot fell about 10 metres, sustaining multiple injuries.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance was already on scene with the aircrew providing immediate medical care.

A mountain rescue spokesman said: “Due to the potential serious nature of the incident, team members quickly assisted in packaging and loading the casualty onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carrying a short distance to the waiting helicopter.”

The casualty was flown to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield for treatment.

As the Rushop Edge incident was being closed, the Buxton Team were then called to The Tipps Car Park, near Barber Booth following a report of an injured 28 year old female walker with an ankle injury on Kinder Scouts southern edge path between Noe Stool and Pym Chair.

The spokesman said: “Due to the team being committed to the Rushop Edge incident, the Kinder Team were called initially and later both teams were able to assist the walker.

“She was treated on site by the Kinder Team, packaged and placed onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to Edale Cross where a Kinder Team Land Rover was waiting to take her to Hayfield.”
