Services through or to Macclesfield could be cancelled or diverted as police deal with a trespasser on the line.
British Transport Police are on the scene after a trespasser incident and delays are expected to go on till at least 9.30am.
A spokesman for National rail said: “A trespass incident at Macclesfield is causing disruption to journeys through this station.
“Services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted via Crewe.
“Northern services may also terminate at / start from Macclesfield.
“We anticipate disruption will continue until 9.30am.” Customers with Cross Country tickets may use their tickets Arriva Trains Wales services between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly, London Midland services between Crewe and Birmingham New Street via Stoke-on-Trent and Northern and Virgin Trains services between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester Piccadilly.
Northern customers may use their tickets on CrossCountry and Virgin Trains services between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester.
Virgin Trains customers may use their tickets on Northern and CrossCountry services between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly.
