Woodhead Pass to be closed all weekend

A major road between Sheffield and Manchester will be closed all weekend as work continues to improve the trans-Pennine route.

The A628 Woodhead Pass will be shut between Flouch roundabout, where it meets the A616, and the A57 from 8pm tomorrow, Friday, June 5 until 6am on Monday, June 8.

It will also be closed the following weekend, from Friday, June 12 until Monday, June 15.

Sheffield city centre road closures extended as residents demand more pedestrianisation

Overnight closures have already been taking place on the route between 8pm and 6am as work on a £5 million upgrade, including resurfacing and drainage work, continues.

Highways England says the project, scheduled for completion in March 2021, will deliver ‘safer, smoother and more dependable journeys’.

Overnight closures are due to continue until Friday, July 10, before resuming on Monday, September 7 until Christmas.

There are also plans to close the road for a third weekend between Friday, July 3 and Monday, July 6.
