Police have confirmed that the icy road conditions caused the lorry to slide out of control.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.15am today and a rescue operation is underway.

No injuries have been reported.

Drivers have criticised the lack of gritting on the roads.

One wrote: “What happened to the gritting lorries on the A515 between Ashbourne and Buxton this morning? Road was lethal, many vehicles sliding on snow and ice.”

A yellow weather warning for snow and rain is in place for much of the Peak District today.
