Local man killed in collision on the A6

A BIRCH Vale man has died after an accident on the A6 at Furness Vale on Monday afternoon.

The collision, which involved a Yamaha motorbike and a BMW sports car, happened at around 2.30pm.

Buxton Road was closed after the accident with the air ambulance landing on the road so the motorcyclist, who had suffered serious injuries, could be airlifted to Stepping Hill Hospital.

Sadly he died of his injuries later that day. He has been named by police as 47-year-old Simon Burnett.

The road reopened at around 7pm on Monday evening.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the accident to contact them on the Derbyshire Police witness appeal line on 01773 572929.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a lorry seen in the area at the time.
