Driver airlifted to hospital after A53 crash

A motorist was airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A53 between Leek and Buxton on Saturday.

The driver, believed to be aged in his 70s, was trapped for over an hour after his vehicle collided with a hedge at Upper Hulme and was found on its side approximately 20 metres from the carriageway.

An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer, a community first responder, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance were dispatched to the incident shortly after 10.45am.

The driver, who was suffering from back pain, was airlifted to University Hospital of North Staffordshire for treatment.
