The former Buxton Girls School pupil who became a government Cabinet minister is returning to the town to give a keynote speech on tourism.

Karen Bradley is to address delegates as the headline speaker at the annual tourism conference and exhibition, hosted by the Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire organisation at the Pavilion Arts Centre in Buxton on Thursday, November 10.

Mrs Bradley, the Conservative MP for Staffordshire Moorlands, will appear in her role as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, which she was handed in July in the first Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Theresa May.

The 46-year-old, who spent her early childhood in Cheddleton and grew up in Buxton, is a qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser who became an MP in 2010 and currently lives in Leek.

Lindsay Rae, of the conference organisers, said: “We are delighted Karen will be joining us. She has a great affinity with the Peak District and Derbyshire area and understands the importance of tourism to the local and regional economy.”
