Gardeners wanting to show off their flower power skills still have time to enter this year’s Buxton in Bloom competition.

Entries close for the annual summer contest, organised by Buxton Town Team, on Monday July 9, with categories for the best private or commercial gardens, best hanging basket, best school garden and best flower pot person.

Entry forms can be downloaded by visiting the Buxton Town Team website at www.buxtontownteam.org.

Organiser Helen Kendrick said: “We want to encourage people to brighten up their gardens and premises.”

Participants need to think about colour, as this year’s theme is ‘rainbows’.

Helen said: “The sun doesn’t always shine in Buxton, but the best thing about rain is that when it stops - we get rainbows.

“So that’s what we’ve chosen for this year’s Buxton in Bloom theme.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how people include all the colours of the rainbow into their entries.”

Judging will take place in August, with the winners being announced in September.

Helen added: “You don’t have to have a garden or even a window box – you can still make a flowerpot person and put it on your doorstep.

“This is something that everyone can get involved in.

“I’m encouraged by the response so far, but we’d like more people.”

Completed entry forms can be downloaded by visiting the Buxton Town team website at www.buxtontownteam.org.

They must be completed and sent back to Buxton Town Team, c/o Town Hall, Buxton, SK17 6EL.

Alternatively, they can be emailed to bloom@buxtontownteam.org.

The deadline for entries to be received is Monday July 9.
