EDALE Mountain Rescue Team will be holding its most important annual fundraising event, the Nine Edges Endurance Challenge, on Saturday.
Entries to the event are now full, but spectators have the opportunity to see the competitors as they battle through 20 miles, and 900 metres of ascent, in a truly special off road adventure.
Participants choose to either Climb, Walk or Run the event, with climbers walking or running it as well as climbing a route on each of the edges in between!
The challenge starts at Fairholmes (Grid Reference SK 17250 89358) and competitors then cover nine gritstone edges of the Peak District – Derwent, Stanage, Burbage North and South, Froggatt, Curbar, Baslow, Gardoms and Birchen Edge, before a drink at the Robin Hood pub at Baslow, and transport provided by the team back to the start.
Edale Mountain Rescue Team members will provide checkpoints along the way and be providing safety cover throughout the event.
Each participant paid £20 to take part in the event, and this goes to funding the vital service provided to the local community and to visitors to the area Edale Mountain Rescue Team.
Many participants choose to raise additional sponsorship to raise even more money for the team, and the event is oversubscribed each year, with the event selling out by July this year!
Local running shop, Sweatshop, provided all the Entrant Numbers, as well as generously donating Isotonic Drink Tablets and a £5 discount voucher to all entrants. T Shirts for the event are being printed by Chris Bentley at the Stitch Factory. The team are also very grateful to the Robin Hood Pub at Baslow for their support.
