Team games welcome new students of Buxton & Leek College

Team-building games helped more than 500 new students of Buxton & Leek College get to know each other and their tutors before lectures began.

Students from all courses gathered in the town’s historic Dome for activities which included a ski slalom and a great egg drop from the balcony.

The get-together was organised by the University of Derby Students’ Union. Lois Clarke, from the Students’ Union, said: “It’s been great to see the college campus so alive with student laughter and fun activities.”

Rosie Meakin, 16, from Ashbourne, has enrolled on a beauty course at the Dome in Buxton. She said: “When I first came here I was really wowed by the facilities and the building. It’s very impressive and I am looking forward to getting started on my course.”

Owen Corden, 16, from Leek, will be among the first to study engineering in Leek’s new, purpose-built facility. He said: “I like modern buildings and am really pleased that we will be the first to get to use all the new machinery and equipment.”

Students studying art courses have also experienced their first week in the new William Morris Building, the new home to the Leek School of Art. Both buildings are part of a £8.5m campus re-development.
