A Buxton student got the taste for success after winning a silver medal at the prestigious North West Commis of the Year Competition.
Joshua Hilton, 18, who is in his final year of a VRQ at Buxton College took home silver at the finals of The Association Culinaire Francaise’s (Eric Walker Cup) North West Commis of the Year competition in Manchester.
Joshua impressed the judges with his culinary knowledge, knife skills and by preparing roast monk fish with smoked bacon and white bean cassoulet with chorizo, and his own signature dish, creamy seafood risotto with pan seared scallops and buttered crayfish.
He said: “I love coming up with my own recipes, and so my lecturer encouraged me to enter this competition. It felt really good to win the silver medal after putting in so much hard work. It was a fantastic confidence boost, and I can’t wait to get working so I can embark on my dream of becoming a Michelin starred chef.”
