FORMER MP Edwina Currie will crown the 2012 Buxton Well Dressing Festival royalty next month.

The Well Dressing Festival takes place between July 5 and 16 with the blessing of the wells on Sunday July 8. The ceremony starts at St Anne’s Church, Bath Road, at 1.45pm, moving to the Market Place Well, the Children’s Well on Spring Gardens and then St Ann’s Well in the Crescent.

Afterwards, the 2012 Queen Lauren-May Lomas, Rosebud Mia Grace Voigt, Pageboy Alexander Berry and attendants Ayisha Leoni Borra, Eleanor Mae MacMillan and Faye Kebbell will be crowned.

The carnival is on Saturday July 14, starting at 2pm, and anyone who can help out with marshalling the event is urged to contact Paul Timmins on 01298 78241 or Duncan Cartlidge on 01298 71529.

St Ann’s Well will commemorate 200 years of St John’s Church, while the Market Place Well celebrates the Olympic Torch’s visit to Buxton. The Children’s Well, designed and dressed by pupils from Buxton Community School, will celebrate the world visiting the UK for the Olympics.

All of the wells will be on view between July 8 and 16 and they can also be seen being dressed at St John’s Church, Buxton, on July 5, 6 and 7.
