Still time to stand for Derbyshire’s Youth Council

The election, run by Derbyshire County Council, is open to students from Derbyshire secondary and special schools, along with colleges in the county.

Young people will also be elected to represent looked after children.

Elected youth council members get involved with decision-making and have their say about issues that affect young people.

County councillor Damien Greenhalgh, deputy cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Anyone who goes to a Derbyshire secondary school or college can nominate themselves to be a youth councillor.

“If you’re interested in having your say about the issues that affect young people like you then get involved and put yourself forward for election.

“Youth councillors don’t need to be into politics or be top of the class − we just need young people who really care and want to make a difference.”

Once all nominations are in young people have until Friday, February 19 2016 to campaign for votes from their fellow school students.

Voting takes place between Monday 29 February and Friday, March 4 2016

Results will be announced at a special event at County Hall in Matlock on Thursday, March 10 2016.
