Buxton-based game designer Ste Pickford has been nominated for a BAFTA, against industry giants such as Nintendo, Electronic Arts and PopCap.
When the prestigious BAFTA Video Game Awards Nominations for 2012 were announced last week, Ste and his brother John’s creation Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint was one of only six games nominated in the Mobile and Handheld category.
“Getting a nomination for a BAFTA, alongside a Nintendo Super Mario game, and games by Electronic Arts, is quite an achievement!” said Ste.
“We’re flattered to be included in this year’s BAFTA nominations list and it shows that great games are all, about great ideas and playability, not enormous budgets and massive marketing campaigns,” he added.
“We hope our nomination encourages more people to seek out fresh, innovative titles like ours.”
The brothers, both veteran video game developers, helped run major design studios in Manchester before setting up on their own in 2004, making and publishing their own games including Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint, an iPad / iPhone game.
