Buxton is set to come alive next week as the town enjoys its second annual spring fair.

Running from 10am to 5pm, there will be stalls, activities and entertainment of all kinds, throughout the town centre encompassing Spring Gardens, the Crescent, the Slopes, the Market Place, High Street, the Square and the bowling green area.

More than 200 stalls have been booked for the fair which will also feature a variety of new attractions for 2014. Children’s attractions include donkey rides outside the town hall, a BMX adventure area, a climbing wall and an artificial cave.

For adults there will be spa treatments on offer, a wide range of arts and crafts stalls, vintage and antiques, clothing, bric-a-brac, books, garden plants and even a mobile museum on the Market Place.

A range of food will also be on offer from hog roasts to barbecues and mobile food vans.

Volunteer organiser Janet Miller said: “This year’s fair will be just about 50 per cent bigger than last year’s, which is pretty amazing, and we have a huge variety of stalls and activities on offer. The town will be buzzing, and there really is something for everyone.

“We do want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have made the event possible.

“Buxton Town Team is a not for profit entity, so we have to make sure the spring fair covers its own costs, and this is only possible due to support from other organisations in the town.

“Whether it’s the loan of gazebos, tables and chairs, or PA equipment, or the waiving of HPBC charges, or lending us private parking spaces, even the many people who have dropped their green button into our Community Fund tally at Waitrose, we are enormously grateful. The spring fair wouldn’t be possible without you.

“We’re also very grateful for the help from the University of Derby Events management students, who are a vital part of the organising team.”

Spring fair leaflets are available from shops throughout the town. Alternatively, for more information email townteam@buxtontownteam.org or see the Buxton Town Team page on Facebook.

A number of roads and car parks in Buxton will be closed for the spring fair on Monday.

Road closures include Scarsdale Place, the top of Bath Road, the Crescent, a section of Wye Street, and the top end of Chapel Street near the Methodist Church between 8am and 5pm.

With stalls across the Market Place, there will be no parking available there or at the top of the Slopes, however, alternative parking has been arranged at the University of Derby Buxton campus on Devonshire Road and at St Thomas More School on Palace Road.

Buxton Town Team are encouraging everyone who can to walk into town, or use buses and trains to ease congestion.

A wide variety of entertainment is taking place at venues including in front of the town hall, the Pump House roof, Bath Road and Hardwick Street. There will also be live music at the Queen’s Head, the London Road, Trunk and the Pavilion Gardens Octagon and band stand.

The event will be officially opened by Buxton’s Town Crier Bill Weston at 10am in front of the town hall. Other performers include the Peak District Wind Band, the Billerettes, Buxton Drama League, Chapel Morris Men, Havana Saints, El Vino and the Ragged Company and High Peak Samba.
