The petition - which was actually set up by a Brexit supporter - called on the Government to only accept the result if either side won by 60% or over and more than 75% of those eligible to vote did so.
In the days following the referendum, it was signed by more than four million people across the country. Any petition which receives over 100,000 signatures is guaranteed a parliamentary debate.
In response, the Government has said the verdict of the 33 million who voted in the referendum ‘must be respected’ and the UK must now ‘prepare for the process to exit the EU’.
The House of Commons Petition Committee have now confirmed that a debate on the petition will take place in Westminster Hall on Monday, 5 September.
