TV naturalist Simon King was among the guests at a special event to mark the beginning of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s 125-year lease of the Roaches.

Simon, who is President of the Wildlife Trusts and is also known as the commentator of shows including BBC Springwatch, joined the trust and representatives from the Peak District National Park Authority for the handover event. Simon also staged a special fundraising talk for the trust.

Guy Corbett-Marshall, Chief Executive of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, said: “As guardians of this magnificent landscape, we’ll work hard to improve access to and enjoyment of the Roaches, as well as protecting and enhancing its unique wildlife.”

The trust will manage the Roaches with the help of a ten-year Natural England Higher Level agreement.
