Buxton’s markets are to relaunch on Easter Saturday next year, it has been revealed.
Buxton Town Team – which was given the go-ahead to take over the running of the twice-weekly markets last August – confirmed the revitalised attractions will be up and running from Saturday, March 26, 2016.
The group is currently in the process of setting up a Community Interest Company which will be owned by residents.
Company members will be able to elect a board and have a say on key decisions.
In the coming months, Buxton Town Team will also launch a drive to find new managers for the markets and talk with current traders and potential traders about joining the attractions.
The Tuesday market will be traditional, selling everyday items such as food, clothing, household goods and garden products.
The Saturday market will combine the regular stalls with a rotating cycle of differently themed markets each week.
Themes might include gardens, arts and crafts, fashion and accessories, antiques and collectables and a specialist food market.
Buxton Town Team member John Estruch, who is project leader of the revamps, said: “We believe that a regenerated market will bring more people into Buxton which will benefit traders throughout the town.
“We’re looking forward to creating active and attractive markets and can’t wait for the launch date.”
