Revamped Buxton flats set to welcome new tenants

High Peak Borough Council has worked with Peaks & Plains Housing Trust to refurbish the building to provide ten one-bedroomed apartments and one two-bedroomed apartment for rent.

And with work at the West Road property now complete, the new customers are all set to collect their keys.

High Peak borough councillor Emily Thrane said: “We know there is a need for affordable one and two bedroomed homes so it’s great that we have been able to work with Peaks & Plains to convert this impressive property in Buxton.

“It’s a beautiful building in a conservation area which has been sensitively developed to provide 11 high-quality apartments for local people and I’m delighted with what we’ve achieved here.

“The council is committed to working in partnership to ensure that we have affordable homes for High Peak residents and this is a wonderful example of what that means in practice. I look forward to seeing the flats occupied very soon.”

Coun Thrane joined representatives from Peaks & Plains Housing Trust and the council for a preview of the properties on Tuesday.

Nigel Bennett, Assistant Director of Partnerships at Peaks & Plains, added: “It has been really great to work with High Peak and bring another long-standing empty property back into use.

“It has been a challenging project as the building had been empty for some considerable time so thanks to all of the team who worked on it to deliver such a fantastic outcome.”
