Residents can help prevent thefts

DERBYSHIRE POLICE are asking High Peak residents to help prevent metal thefts by not leaving scrap on show.

It follows a number of incidents where scrap metals have been taken from people’s gardens, land or from outbuildings.

A microwave was stolen from outside a house on Lightwood Road, Buxton on September 14 and there have also been incidents in other parts of the High Peak and Dales during recent months.

Officers across the county are currently targeting the theft of metal as part of Operation Calanthia.

Running until the end of the year, Operation Calanthia will include enforcement action against those involved in the crime as well as raising awareness with local businesses and groups about the issue.

l To report any suspicious activity contact Derbyshire police on 0345 123 33 33 or if you have information about crime, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
