An appeal for information has helped police trace a young girl who was reportedly seen in a distressed state in the Fairfield area.

A concerned member of the public contacted officers on Sunday to report seeing the girl, apparently distressed, walking along a street in Fairfield.

Derbyshire police subsequently issued an appeal for information via social media, although no missing person was reported.

A post on the force’s Facebook page this evening (Monday) reads: “We have now traced the youngster and her family, who are all safe and well, and we are satisfied that there was an innocent explanation for her distress.

“We would like to thank everyone who responded to our Facebook post.

“Information from the public helped us to trace the youngster.”
