Pub decking gets decked by planners

A HIGH Peak pub has failed in its bid to get planning permission to retain a decked seating area.

Simon Woodall, from the Packhorse, Hayfield, said changes had been made to address earlier concerns and stressed the importance to the business of the outside dining area and separate smoking area. He said that he had been unaware when the work had been done that it needed planning permission.

When an application was refused by High Peak’s Development Control Committee earlier this year, members had asked officers to work with the applicant but the changes did not go far enough.

Cllr Tim Norton, moving refusal, said: “I have a lot of sympathy with the owners of the premises. It is not easy to make any public house pay – but the pub is in a conservation area.”

The decking is also believed to be too close to the carriageway and will be subject to action by Derbyshire County Council.
