A ROYAL Marine from Buxton, who died while serving in Afghanistan, has had his name added to the town’s war memorial.
A bronze cast plaque bearing the name of 21-year-old Scott Taylor has been added to the memorial on The Slopes ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Scott’s mum Jayne said: “I’m grateful to the council and Royal British Legion for enabling Scott’s name to be added, and it’s fitting that the plaque will be in place for Remembrance Day, when we pay tribute to all those who have given their lives for freedom.”
High Peak Borough Council Leader Tony Ashton said: “Adding Scott’s name was the least we could do, and it’s right that it now sits alongside the names of other heroes who have paid the ultimate price for their bravery.”
Also added is the name of Sapper Geoffrey Ponsonby, who died on active duty in Cyprus in 1956. His name was added after his widow responded to an appeal in the Advertiser.
