Residents planning to stand in this year’s High Peak parliamentary, borough or parish elections can find out more about what’s involved at two pre-nomination events.

High Peak Borough Council is organising events where prospective MPs and councillors can ask any questions they may have and collect their nomination papers if they decide to go ahead and stand for election.

The pre-nomination information evening for potential MPs is taking place at 6.30pm on Wednesday March 11 and those considering becoming a borough or parish councillor are invited to attend at 6.30pm on Thursday March 12. Both events are at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton.

High Peak Mayor, Councillor Alan Barrow, said: “Deciding whether to stand for election is a big decision and one that needs to be given due consideration.

“These events are a chance for anyone thinking of standing as a candidate to learn more about the role and the process and I’d recommend them to anyone contemplating public service of this kind.”

The parliamentary and local elections take place on Thursday May 7, and nominations from those wishing to stand must be received by 4pm on Thursday April 9.
