A new £250,000 fund is being launched to help support small community and voluntary groups with big ideas.
Derbyshire County Council’s new Community Action Grant will provide a funding boost to help small projects get off the ground.
Council leader Andrew Lewer and Cllr Carol Hart, Cabinet Member for Public Health, are hosting a launch event on Tuesday June 21 to give people the chance to learn more about the Community Action Grant and meet other like-minded community groups and organisations.
Cllr Lewer said: “We know that there are plenty of groups out there doing wonderful things for their community and we would like them to come along and find out how we can support them.
“We are keen to show what can be achieved when people work together for the good of their communities.”
He added: “Large charities do fine work across the county and have the staff and resources to publicise their work.
“Much of the work of small charities can be far less visible but their achievements are just as significant. By bringing them together on June 21 the county council hopes to provide the sector with a louder collective voice.”
The event will highlight other funding support available and also sees the launch of the 2011 Excellence in the Community Awards which recognise outstanding work and extraordinary achievement by individuals, groups and communities.
The June 21 launch will take place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at County Hall, Matlock. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Refreshments will be provided.
