FIVE motorists were given fixed penalty notices or warnings for not wearing seatbelts during a police and partnership operation in New Mills last week.
Officers from the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team helped out with the multi-agency initiative to crackdown on dangerous or unsafe driving, which took place on August 13.
The checks were carried out on Albion Road as part of the countywide campaign, called Operation Safedrive, which was set up to target concerns about safety behind the wheel.
Team Sergeant Jo Brett said: “We carried out these checks on Albion Road, a place where local residents say they are concerned about speeding and road safety; there have also been three recent collisions at this location.
“We hope that motorists will be reminded about the importance of wearing their seatbelts and driving safely and responsibly.”
