Police hunt woman thief who helped herself to OAP’s cash in Buxton

Police are appealing for information and offering advice following reports of a woman attempting to steal cash from elderly residents in Buxton.

Officers have received a number of reports of a woman approaching homes of elderly residents’ yesterday evening (Monday, July 11) and gaining entry to their property by asking for help or asking to use the toilet.

She is described as white, around 5ft 2ins tall, and of slim build. She wore her blonde hair tied back.

Whilst inside the address, the woman is believed to ask for money, and where she has been refused, has then helped herself to cash before leaving.

Detective Constable Simon Wakelin said: “Following the suspicious incidents I would like to encourage residents to be vigilant and to not allow anyone that they do not know into their homes.

“The woman is described as being polite and convincing. I would encourage anyone who may be approached in this way to close the door and call police.”
