Planners’ yes to banners

BANNERS and flags advertising events in Buxton will be a familiar sight in the town again this summer after councillors approved their own planning application.

High Peak Borough Council applied for permission for a series of cultural banners in Buxton to advertise events including Buxton Festival, Buxton in Bloom and Buxton Carnival.

The banners will be displayed between July and September and councillors granted permission for the adverts for the same three month period every year for five years at a meeting of the borough council’s Development Control Committee on Monday.

Planning permission had previously been granted in 2009 for two years.

A total of 35 banners will be attached to street lights on Spring Gardens, Terrace Road, Market Place, Station Road, St John’s Road and High Street.

There will also be eight ground mounted flag poles with banners in the Pavilion Gardens and the Railway Station.

National flags will be fixed to the arches of the Crescent and banners fixed to railings on Broadwalk.
