Youngsters have been getting crafty to make sure Buxton’s Christmas lights switch-on sparkles.
Buxton’s Winter Celebration & Christmas Lights Switch-On event will take place this coming Friday at the Pavilion Gardens and feature the ever-popular lantern parade.
Buxton Sparkles, organisers of the torch-lit procession, held a free lantern-making workshop at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday.
Young and old attended the Terrace Road gallery to try their hand at making magical sculptures and lanterns for the night-time parade.
This year’s switch-on event has an extra-terrestrial theme, and Buxton Sparkles has also been working with Buxton Community School pupils to build aliens, UFOs and other out-of-this-world creations.
The lantern procession itself will get underway at 6pm on Friday in the Pavilion Gardens, led by ‘Creeping Toad’ Gordon MacLellan. Participants are asked to gather on the promenade by the conservatory.
Opera House pantomime star Kelsey Beth Crossley, formerly of Emmerdale and The Voice, will be flicking the switch to turn on Buxton’s Christmas lights at around 6.30pm.
A Grand Bazaar will also be taking place in a newly-constructed temporary events hall on the Promenade.
