Students at Taxal and Fernilee Primary School in Whaley Bridge ran the 987 miles between the school and Poland on Monday, May 21 and raised more than £500.

The students were asked to run 15 times around the 0.5km track throughout the day to cover the distance.

Assistant Headteacher Sue Lonsdale said “All of our pupils and staff – from the very youngest to the oldest – did their bit for the fundraising effort by running part of the journey to Tymbark.
“It was lovely to see our Year 6 pupils accompanying and encouraging their Reception buddies, and was a great chance for the whole school to get out into the fresh air together with a common goal.”

Headteacher Vicky Keen said: “We have planned activities in school as well as trips to Manchester and Buxton and wanted to raise funds to cover the costs of these trips.”

Whaley Bridge has been twinned with Tymbark in Poland since June 1994, and in that time there have been four visits by pupils to Poland and four reciprocal visits to Whaley Bridge.

Vicky Keen added: “When we visit Poland, they look after us extremely well and we really want to do the same for them during this visit.”
