An online petition has been launched to save Stepping Hill Hospital.

Created by the High Peak Liberal Democrats, the petition has been set up after the trust that runs the Stockport-based hospital announced last week it was to close a ward and cut 350 jobs.

The description on the group’s website reads: “We in the High Peak protest in the strongest terms to the loss of over 400 staff at Stepping Hill Hospital and the loss of Ward B3. We call upon the Conservative Government to save Stepping Hill Hospital and provide the neccessary funding to support its future.

“Whilst it is based in Stockport, Stepping Hill Hospital is a vital resource for us in the High Peak. With Cavendish Hospital in Buxton facing a slow, drawn out “closure by stealth” with ward-after-ward being closed there, we in the High Peak are even more dependent on Stepping Hill Hospital than ever before - we cannot afford for it to go the same way as Cavendish Hospital.

“We join in support with everyone in Stockport, Hazel Grove and all across the region that Stepping Hill Hospital serves to declare in no uncertain terms: Stepping Hill Hospital must be saved.”
