Woman dies in Buxton flat fire

A woman has died after a fire at a block of flats in Buxton.

Firefighters were called to the second-floor flat on Carlisle Road on Wednesday morning.

A police spokesman said they pulled the 44-year-old woman from the ‘heavily smoke logged flat’ after being called out at 8.44am however, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are jointly investigating the blaze with the fire service but they say the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The spokesman added: “The 44-year-old woman was handed into the care of paramedics but was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

“The thoughts and sympathy of everyone at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are with the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.

“A joint police and fire investigation is ongoing, however the incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
