Photos show empty streets in Buxton as third national lockdown continues

These pictures show empty streets and quiet roads in Buxton town centre today as the third national lockdown continues.

The lockdown, announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an address to the nation on Monday night, means people have to stay at home, unless they have a reasonable excuse to leave such as going to work if they cannot work from home.

Non-essential shops, which had already been closed in Derbyshire as part of Tier 4 measures, must remain closed, and schools have also moved to online learning, remaining open only for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers.

The rules are expected to be in force until at least mid-February.

Our photographer captured these images of the town centre today, with the main shopping area of Spring Gardens, and the town’s Market Place, both looking eerily quiet. The Pavilion Gardens, always a popular spot with locals and visitors alike, was also all but empty.
