Hundreds gather in Buxton for peaceful Black Lives Matter protest after death of George Floyd

Up to 200 people gathered in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens at the weekend to hold a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest.

Meg Fletcher, 23, organised Sunday’s demonstration following the death of George Floyd in the American city of Minneapolis.

The unarmed 46-year-old father passed away on March 25 after being arrested by a police officer who pinned him to the ground for several minutes by kneeling on his neck.

His death has sparked protests around the world.

Meg described Buxton’s demonstration as ‘very beautiful’.

She said: “I was deeply moved by the news about George Floyd and wanted to hold a peaceful protest.

“Up to 200 people attended, all at a safe social distance.

“We played music and paid tribute to George Floyd.

“We marched around the park and a few people said some words and we placed all our signs down.

“It was a very beautiful day.”
