Festive plan to make Harpur Hill homes ‘living advent calendars’ this Christmas

Homes in Harpur Hill will become ‘living advent calendars’ this Christmas - with occupants devoting an entire window to a cheery festive scene.

Every night from December 1 to December 24 a different residence in the Buxton neighbourhood will light up their display for passing admirers to enjoy.

Homes taking part in the nightly display - designed to spread some Yuletide joy during a sad time for many this year - will be marked on a specially-designed advent calendar with addresses printed on every date up to December 24.

A map will show those wandering in search of Christmas cheer where to find each advent.

Both are available by visiting the Harpur Hill Living Calendar Facebook page. For those not able to get online they are also to hand at Buxton’s Green Man Gallery.

Mum-of-three Andrea Felix, who is helping organise the event, blacked-out a window with daughter Mina last year to create a woodland scene - with a young girl making a wish below a starry sky.

She said: “We’re just hoping it will give people a smile and it’ll be nice for children as well.

“Harpur Hill’s a small area so it should be quite easy to walk around and see them and we want people to walk or drive over from Buxton to have a look.”

Scenes will be lit every night at 6.30 pm.

As part of the celebration the group are asking people to make a donation to Blythe House Hospice HERE.
