The 21-month-old black spaniel named Enzo has been missing since December 5 at 1pm while he was on a walk with his family near the Longendale Trail in High Peak after he disappeared into the bushes.

Now that it has been a month since they last saw him, his family have been left distraught and feel "completely helpless" as their search operations have given no definite lead so far.

Angela Casale said Enzo belonged to her brother's family who have been devastated since his disappearance.

"My brother's wife just recovered from cancer and she's the one who has looked after the dog the most. They've been quite poorly.

"It’s just awful not knowing what’s happening and not knowing where he is to see if he's okay or how he's being treated.”

She said Enzo was not put on a lead before he disappeared as he was familiar with the surroundings.

"He was off lead because it was quite safe for us to do so. He went there nearly every day so there was no issue at all.

"We think somebody has taken him or he has been spooked by something. We believe someone stole him because a lot of spaniels have been stolen recently," she said.

Angela said the family have been on a full-scale search and rescue operations with the help from the mountain rescuers, the community, the local council, CAGED Nationwide and the RSPCA.

But with the national lockdown in place, she said this could hinder their search operations.

"It's going to be very difficult because people wouldn't take leaflets from our hands and we need to avoid being in crowded places.

"This also means there's a less chance of finding Enzo as people are not leaving their houses to help look for him."

She said she would likely be around Glossop with CAGED Nationwide on Wednesday to spread the word about Enzo.

"They are using a van with a TV screen on the side window with Enzo’s posters and pictures and we will take it to busy places so it can jog people’s memory.”
