The member for Limestone Peak said the new dwellings would bring ‘growth and new life’ to the tiny hamlet.

Plans for the new estate were originally approved in 2015 however consent lapsed in 2018 as building work had not started within three years of approval.

Coun Roberts said: “They had already taken six deposits - they are needed in the village because there are no new properties here at all.

“I think this will put a bit of growth and new life into the village - Peak Dale is a marvellous little place.

“It’s very knitted together and everybody knows everybody else.

“You can leave your doors open - it’s that safe and secure. It’s beautiful.”

The councillor added that housebuilders Southworth Construction would have ‘no problem’ selling the houses.

The new estate is planned for 0.8 hectares of grazing land just north of Batham Gate Road - with a new junction providing access.

Thirty per cent - or eight - of the units will be affordable housing - with six available for rent and two under shared ownership.

High Peak Borough Council planning officers recommended approving the proposal subject to a contribution of £5,184 for play area improvements at Peak Dale play area and £13,213 towards improvements to outdoor sports facilities at the recreation ground.

They also asked for £2,077 towards improvements to Batham Gate allotments.
