Amelia Knight, 7, was born with diplegia cerebral palsy - which causes muscle stiffness and leaves her walking on her toes to get around.

After receiving treatment at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital the caring youth was so affected when she saw other children on the cancer ward she was determined to do something to help.

Mum Emily, 28, told how her daughter ‘guilted’ her into cutting the same length from her own long brown hair - which she admits is her ‘defining feature’ - for the Little Princess Trust on February 17.

The charity provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

Emily said: “I was really surprised when she came out with it but she wanted to do something to help those poorly boys and girls.

“I’m dreading it but it’s nothing compared to what those children go through in hospital.”

Amelia will be undergoing an invasive surgical procedure known as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy this summer.

The operation involves altering nerve roots to improve mobility and will mean months of physiotherapy afterwards.

Emily said: “It’s quite a big operation but Amelia is such a little trooper - she’s not phased by it at all.”

She and Amelia will also be fundraising for Ronald MacDonald House - which provides accommodation and support for families with seriously ill children in hospital.
