Hide AdGrandfather-of-two Roy described his amazement when he received a phone call from a Government official who said ‘I’m ringing on behalf of the Queen’.
He said: “I was quite shocked but felt honoured and would like to think I can still help a lot of other people.”
Roy, a former local government officer, has volunteered at Buxton Opera House for over 40 years - where taking tickets and serving ice cream have been some of his duties.
Over the years he has helped countless numbers of lonely elderly people with Hall Bank Trust by, for example, funding Christmas dinners and weekly lunch clubs.
