Paraglider injured after crashing in take-off

A man is in hospital after a paraglider crash in the Peak District after encountering 'difficulties' during take-off.

Mountain Rescue teams came to the aid of an injured 58-year-old man who had suffered back injuries in the afternoon of Tuesday, July 12.

Buxton MRT said: "Teams from Buxton and Edale were called to the incident in Abney Moor, near Bradwell.

"An unfortunate pilot got into difficulties upon take off causing a crash which resulted in him suffering back injuries.

"The Buxton Team was delayed due to a road closure resulting in a lengthy diversion having to be taken.

"The casualty was treated on site by the Edale Team initially and both teams were able to stabilise the situation. The pilot, a 58-year-old male from Northampton, was placed onto a

mountain rescue stretcher and carried across fields to the waiting land ambulance, and transferred to the Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
