Overturned fire engine causes delays

The collision happened on the A6 road, at Ashford-in-the-Water, about 8am, on Tuesday, March 18, as the fire engine was heading to an emergency involving an overturned Toyota Celica car.

A crew of four firefighters had been travelling along the A6 from Ashford to Taddington when the fire appliance left the road and overturned.

One male firefighter, who was the driver of the appliance, has been injured and was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance and the remaining casualties have been discharged.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is currently providing support to the families of all those involved in this incident and are commencing a thorough investigation.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Kam Basi said: “Our priority at the present time is to the firefighters involved and their families, who are all receiving our full support.

“A full investigation into the incident has commenced.”

The collision caused delays to traffic during rush-hour and police said road closures have been put in between Ashford-in-the-Water and Chelmorton while removal of the fire engine is underway.

A fire crew from Chapel-en-le-Frith attended the original emergency call which involved a road traffic collision with a trapped person and Toyotal Celica. The fire service said this emergency was dealt with “successfully”.
