LETTER: Do white lines on roads serve their purpose?

There has recently been discussion in the national press about whether the white painted lines on roads serve a purpose.

Locally there are two instances where driving would be very dangerous if the lines were not there.

Firstly the A5004 - Long Hill - where not so long ago both the central line and the edging lines were repainted making driving down from Buxton to Whaley Bridge, particularly on dark wet nights, considerably easier.

Secondly through Whaley Bridge on Buxton Road where parking is allowed on both sides the central line enables most saloon cars to drive through, with care, and keep traffic flowing.
