Oh my cod! Buxton chip shop owner's surprise catch of the day
The Coach House chip shop owner Wes Darbyshire was left stunned when he opened a box of delivered fish to find the biggest cod of his life.
The family-run business on the Market Place, Buxton, needed two people to lift the 16lb Icelandic cod.
Wes, pictured holding the fish with his son John, said: “I’ve been doing this for 40 years and have never seen a fish that big.
“Normally the fillets are about two pounds in weight - this fish must have been 45lbs.”
Once chopped up, the monster fillet fed 40 people.
