The robber – who was brandishing a large blade – then demanded access to the safe.

He left the scene with a quantity of money.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “A man dressed as Santa Claus entered the building through the drive-through window and demanded access to the safe. He has reinforced that with a knife.

“Staff quite rightly backed off and allowed him that and he exited the scene with a quantity of money.”

The spokesman said the force deployed specialist teams – including police dogs – to try and track the armed robber.
