A fresh attempt has been launched to knock down and replace an historic 19th century hotel in Buxton.
High Peak Borough Council planners rejected proposals concerning The Buckingham Hotel, on Burlington Road, in back in 2017.
However, amended plans have now been submitted to the council which still call for the demolition of the Buckingham and its replacement with a new, larger hotel providing 110 rooms, ancillary facilities and sub-ground parking.
The new application seeks to address the reasons behind the council’s previous decision to refuse the plans, covering such issues as an inadequate bat survey and the loss of an existing building.
Documents submitted to the borough council on behalf of the application state: “The building is neither old nor rare.
“The structure is damaged; it is not particularly diverse or complicated.
“The proposal constitutes a sustainable development, in a sustainable location and in planning terms, should have the benefit of a presumption in favour of development.”
